Drive types

Hybrid vehicles were able to continue their successful course thanks to an increasing number of mild hybrids: with growth of 12.7 percent, they achieved a market share of 33.6 percent. Non-chargeable hybrids in particular have established themselves as a bridging technology. Plug-in hybrids also increased (+9.2%), but fell short of expectations with a share of 6.8 percent. Reason: Probably too expensive without subsidies.

The market for pure electric vehicles (BEVs) developed significantly negatively, losing considerable momentum with a minus of 27.4 percent and a market share of 13.5 percent. The decline is due, among other things, to the abolition of subsidies for electric cars, which has noticeably increased the acquisition costs for consumers.

On the other hand, manufacturers will have to massively push these vehicles into the market in 2025 in order to achieve the fleet targets in terms of CO2. Otherwise, there is a risk of high fines. In this respect, many discounts and special promotions for BEVs and plug-in hybrids are to be expected, which could boost this market again.

Tesla Supercharger

Gasoline engines remained stable with a slight increase of 1.4 percent and a share of 35.2 percent and remained the dominant drive type on the market. Diesel passenger cars, on the other hand, suffered a slight decline of 0.7 percent, but still played an important role with a market share of 17.2 percent, especially in the commercial sector and for vehicles with high mileage.

VW TDI (2000) Diesel driving bans

Liquefied natural gas-powered vehicles showed moderate growth (+4.3%), but remained an absolute niche with a share of 0.5 percent. Natural gas vehicles, on the other hand, lost almost all of their importance, their registrations slumped by 89.7 percent, and with a market share of 0.0 percent, they no longer played a role.

German Brands

VW once again secured the top position among the German brands with 19.1 percent, making it the strongest brand. Porsche (+9.9%/1.3%) and Opel (+2.0%/5.2%) increased their registrations, while Mini (-29.1%/1.2%), Smart (-28.4%/0.4%) and Audi (-18.1%/7.2%) suffered significant declines. Mercedes (-7.0%/9.2%) and BMW (-0.1%/8.3%) remained more stable, but were unable to grow.

Import brands

Dacia (+4,4 %/2,5%) konnte wieder leicht zulegen.

Segments

SUVs dominated the market with a share of 30.2 percent, followed by the compact class (18.7 percent). Small cars (12.0%) and mid-size (9.0%) remained important segments. The upper mid-size class surprised with an increase of 30.5 percent and reached a share of 4.0 percent.
